A report by Haya Syed – Grade XII Sometimes, the best things in life are what we take most for granted. Sounds familiar? I should think so. One of the biggest blessings that we choose to snub and always end up ostracizing is the value of education. So many of us whine and grumble at the prospect of waking up for school and studying, a gift many kids around the world would do anything to attain. Not all children are lucky- however, thanks to the few Samaritans who actually take the step and break the ground for achieving a beautiful purpose like education, new times now beckon to us. Our school gave us an opportunity to discover life within a new institution that catered to the needs of children facing the brunt of poverty and inopportunity by conducting ‘Bal Advitiya -Out reach Program’ . This led us to the NGO school- JGRV – where the students of the 10th grade , 11th and 12th grade from the Humanities Department were accompanied by the Vice-Principal, Maya ma’am, director of Endeavor, Vidya ma’am, and teachers Mini ma’am and Rohit Sir . The objective of this trip was assessing the children of the school of different classes on their English and Math aptitude. We would like to thank them for being pioneers of such an amazing endeavour and for treading new paths. With the guidance and assistance from our teachers, all of us began our assessments in full swing. However, what we all gained was far more knowledge than we could have ever imagined. Interacting with the children was undoubtedly, the highlight of the experience for all of us. We met children of so many different personalities, yet all of them had something so strikingly similar at the same time. In all of them we saw humility, a lesson we all could learn a thing or two from, in this world where every individual only wishes to chase the luxuries and sometimes get so consumed in trying to attain the intangible, that we lose sight of the true purposes in life. After looking at the children and teachers of the school, it was suddenly clear to us that some things in life cannot just be bought, they are earned. The toothless smile of an innocent
is priceless and this is exactly what this institution has earned. All in all, the day of the Out reach Program was a fun-filled, emotionally enriching and rewarding one which altered our mundane perceptions of life as we know it!
