Problem statement:
In case of hand fracture that require cast, typically doctor advises use of shoulder sling to support the fractured hand. This shoulder sling however causes shoulder and neck pain as the weight of the hand and plaster cast has to borne by the shoulder. I had the misfortune of my hand getting fractured, which required me to wear this shoulder sling for long hours while attending school and that in turn caused pain in my shoulder area.
Proposal:
I propose to alter the contraption so that the burden does not have to be borne by the shoulder, and instead it gets distributed over a wider and stronger back and stomach areas.
Such a contraption should:
- Be light-weight.
- Have a wide base to rest the hand on.
- Easy to clean.
- Size adjustable.
- Effective in immobilizing the hand.
